Cambridge Diet

The Cambridge Diet is available through distributors in the United States, however in the UK it is only available through diet counselors to those with a BMI of 25 or more. The diet has been in existence since 1984 and was designed for those that are severely overweight.

A Look at the Diet

It requires people to follow the diet program and purchase the necessary products. The products include shakes, nutrition bars, oatmeal, drinks, and soup mixes. Its effectiveness is based on the extremely low calorie intake that it allows while it does supply all the necessary nutrients. The prepackaged foods offer the benefit of convenience and not having to spend time preparing meals.

To begin with, dieters are only allowed 415 to 500 calories per day. This is an extremely low amount of calories, although after the first weeks it is increased up to 790 and eventually a high of 1000 calories. While 1000 calories is a welcome jump from the initial weeks, it is still considered a very low calorie diet.

Does It Work?

While lowering caloric intake has been proven to help lose weight, some argue that the low calorie intake will actually slow down the metabolism. It is also highly recommended that those on the Cambridge Diet must be sure to intake plenty of water to avoid dehydration. Because of the dramatically low calorie consumption, most would agree that this is not a lifestyle change and it is very difficult to keep the weight off after terminating the program.

Although the techniques included in this program seem to afford quick weight loss, the ability to keep it off in the long-term seems to be non-existent. That is if you have the determination and willpower to stay on the program long enough to reach your goal weight to begin with. Before investing your hard-earned money in this weight loss program, be certain you understand what you are buying into.
